Fastest CPU in the world?| I9 10980XE Review and benchmark.

Hello folks. Today we’ll see the best intel processor currently, and also the most expensive, at least while I’m writing this post (Monday, September 7, 2020). There is no doubt that the i9 10980XE is the fastest processor from intel. But is it the world’s fastest Cpu in the world? We will answer this and make some comparisons with the fastest processor in the Ryzen line. Shall we? Let’s go then.

Features

The i9 10980XE has 18 cores and 36 threads, which are already more than enough for daily tasks, or even heavier tasks. It also has a lithography of 14 nanometers and 3.00Ghz of base power. Check out the respective technical specifications down below.

Cores 18
Threads 36
Processor Base Frequency 3.00 GHz
Max Turbo Frequency 4.60 GHz
Lithography 14nm
Cache 24.75 MB Intel® Smart Cache
Intel® Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 Frequency  4.80 GHz
Bus Speed 8 GT/s DMI3
TDP 165 W
Max Memory Size 256 GB

Now let’s talk about the fastest of the Ryzen line currently, the Ryzen Threadripper 3990x. A priori Ryzen TR 3990x comes out ahead with a huge number of cores and threads. It completely catches the eye with its astonishing 64 cores and 128 threads. And it also has a lithography of 7 nanometers and 2.9Ghz of base power. Check out the respective technical specifications down below.

Cores 64
Threads 128
Processor Base Frequency 2.9 GHz
Max Turbo Frequency 4.3 GHz
Lithography 7nm
CMOS TSMC 7nm FinFET
Total L1 Cache 4Mb
Total L3 Cache 256Mb
TDP 280 W
Total L2 Cache 32Mb

i9 10980XE vs Ryzen TR 3990x

Last, we will make a direct comparison between these two processors. First, about cores and threads, the Ryzen TR 3990x comes out completely ahead. But as a consequence of a large number of cores and threads, it shows an extremely high TDP of 280W. And 165W of the intel processor. Despite this, the Ryzen TR 3990x has only 7nm while the intel i9 10980XE has 14 nm. In case you don’t know, here’s a brief explanation of lithography:

Basically, CPU lithography is the unit of measurement of the printed circuit manufactured by the processing chip. It refers to the physical size of the transistors. Smaller lithography means an increase in the number of transistors in the same physical space, reducing energy consumption and heat dispersion, as well as the distance between components reducing communication latencies. The reduction in lithography makes it possible to increase the gross power of the CPU and opens up more space for more physical cores, greater load capacity per core.

7nm

A while ago, intel revealed that the launch of 7 nm processors would be delayed due to low yield and may only come out in 2023. Meaning that even if intel wanted to put a high number of cores and threads as ryzen did, those processors would have an extremely high TDP due to 14 nm, which would easily pass 400w. Since the possible with the 7nm of the Ryzen TR 3990x was 280W, which is already quite high.

Last but not least, the issue of prices. The Ryzen TR 3990x for being a processor of extreme technical difficulty in production, has a very high price, in the range of $ 3500, as the intel i9 10980XE is in the range of $ 750. Bear in mind that these processors are not recommended for ordinary day-to-day users, being recommended more for enthusiasts.

Benchmarks

Down below, we will see benchmark tests with these two processors and tests in games with the most powerful card in the world until now the RTX 2080ti. Note that when the RTX 3000 line comes out, these tests will be updated.

Render tests

Gaming benchmarks

Conclusion

We could see how the processors fared. Regarding games, the two processors do very similarly, with a slight advantage for the Ryzen TR 3990x. Also, in terms of rendering, the Ryzen TR 3990x does quite a bit ahead due to the huge number of cores and threads.

If you intend to get a processor to play, the i9 10980XE would not be recommended for you, since there are enough decent processors with lower prices and with very similar performance. But if you are looking for a processor to work and need a lot of cores and threads, the Ryzen Threadripper 3990x is the most suitable.

Fastest CPU in the world?

About the fastest Cpu in the world, Ryzen Threadripper won, in my opinion. Feel free to comment down below your opinion about the fastest CPU in the world.
